Gao Xingjian is the first Chinese-born winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature. A dissident playwright living in France, his early work focused on translating French plays (especially Theatre of the Absurd) into Chinese. Gao Xingjian is the author of Soul Mountain and One Man's Bible as well as numerous plays including The Other Shore.

While the Nobel Prize recognizes a lifetime of achievement and contribution to literature and humanity, we at turtleneck.net wish to reward any and all times Gao Xingjian got ripped with French coeds and sang karaoke till dawn because we know, as all litgeeks know, even when you're living in exile, you tell all the chicks what a great writer you are.

turtleneck salutes the gumption of this crazy Chinese guy who digs weird French plays (and plays written in French by dangerously bizarre Irish freaks) and makes Gao Xingjian the first recipient of the Rodentia Grant for Excellence in Literature, honoring authors for their efforts to enhance the literary reputation of Rodents and liquor.
